About Montepulciano...
Its special location on a ridge between the Valdichiana and the Val d'Orcia has marked the history of the city of Montepulciano, and also characterized its urban design.
The town rises on a hilltop 605 meters above sea level, from which the view extends over the municipality's valleys and territories; the panorama is made even lovelier by olive groves and vineyards, and by the zone's many natural features, such as the chalky clay hills and the cypresses that vertically mold the landscape. From the Renaissance City Hall's Tower one can see as far as the Sibillini and Cimone mountains, and in exceptionally clear weather, the Gran Sasso d'Italia to the south.
From Montepulciano it's easy to reach the Val d'Orcia (Pienza, San Quirico, Bagno Vignoni), Mount Amiata, Umbria (Perugia, Assisi, Lake Trasimeno) and Lazio.
